Abstinence Education

The abstinence program is designed to team with the community to provide a preventative program that addresses teen pregnancy, STD’s and infant mortality rates.

The current abstinence-only education programs target junior high and high school adolescents, ages 12 through 18 years, and their parents.

The program provides a structured abstinence-only education in both an in-school and after-school format to the target population.  Utilizing classroom instruction and small group activities, abstinence educators guide students through a standardized, proven curriculum that is in use nationwide and has demonstrated excellent results with youth in this age range.

The after-school component of the program offers services on site at various agencies where after-school programs for youth currently operate.

Number of sessions varies on needs of the program.

Parental participation is integrated through quarterly newsletters, homework assignments through the in-school and after-school programs, and parent workshops.

Mentors are provided through the abstinence program as they become available.  Mentors are defined as those who live by example and are willing to talk publicly about their choice to abstain.
