About Us
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Peoria is the official social service agency of the Peoria Diocese, an area covering 26 counties in central Illinois. With nearly 400 dedicated staff members and 2,350 caring volunteers, Catholic Charities strives to provide help and create hope to anyone in need regardless of race, religion or economic status. We have over 40 programs and services designed to help the most vulnerable in our communities, including foster care, crisis intervention, senior services and counseling.
Here are the ways Catholic Charities made a difference in 2008:
STRENGTHENING FAMILIES
- 8,309 individuals, couples, and families received Behavioral Health Counseling services to help them address a myriad of life's challenges
- Nearly 3,600 hours of in-home counseling services were provided to seniors to improve their quality of life
- Parenting assistance and compassionate support for pregnancy planning was provided to more than 200 women last year
- Through Latino Outreach, more than 170 immigrants became more active in their communities.
PROTECTING AND NURTURING CHILDREN
- 160 children were adopted by loving parents who will provide the care, support, and family they need
- Jesu Enrichment Child Care Center gave 130 children in Peoria a safe place to learn and play
- 331 youth learned to believe in themselves and respect others at our area summer camps.
SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN CRISIS
- 17,316 meals were given by the emergency food pantry in Peoria to assist area residents through a difficult period in their life
- 88% of the at-risk youth served through the Crisis Intervention program were kept out of the child welfare system
- Guardian Angel Home provided counseling, life skills and a safe haven for 15 abused and neglected boys.
BUILDING A JUST AND COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITY
- 2,350 volunteers made a difference by generously contributing 24,000 hours of time and talent to provide help and hope at Catholic Charities
- We advocate for just laws for our clients, partners, workers and communities.
